New Year, New You
January 5th, 2017With the decorations coming down, and the last of the turkey now consumed, thoughts begin to turn to 2017. You might be considering your new year’s resolutions and wondering whether to sign up to the gym, spend more time with your family, or eat a bit healthier. However, starting the new year is also a good time to refresh and reflect on many of our more day to day habits. It’s also a good chance to check up on your oral hygiene routines and make sure you’re looking after your teeth properly. So, as 2016 draws to a close and a new year begins, we thought we’d share our top tips for maintaining a healthy smile in 2017.
1.Brush your teeth twice a day: last thing at night before you go to bed, and on at least one other occasion during the day.
2.Brush for two minutes each time. Consider using a timer, or an app to ensure that you manage that full two minutes.
3.Use interdental brushes to clean in between your teeth. These are the key areas where food particles can get trapped. Leftover food can lead to tooth decay and other problems.
4.Be aware of any signs or symptoms that aren’t normal for you. If you’re concerned about something, get it checked out by our dental team.
5.Cut down on sugary foods and drinks: be mindful about what you’re consuming.
6.Ensure you keep up with your regular dental appointments and check-ups. January is a good time to plan ahead, and make sure you’ve got your next appointment scheduled in.
Following our tips can help you to keep your teeth and gums healthy. This means reduced pain and discomfort, and that any potential problems can be picked up earlier on, before they become more difficult to treat. Prioritise your oral health in 2017, and make sure you give time to your oral hygiene routines. It’s easy to let things slip over the busy festive period, but January is a good time to re-evaluate and get back on track.
