It’s almost time for National Smile Month!
May 10th, 2017The Oral Foundation are about to launch their annual event, shining the spotlight on oral health care once more. That’s right, National Smile Month is back! Running from 15th May – 15th June, it is hoped that this year’s event will be even better and bigger than events in previous years.
Running each year around this time, National Smile Month is a campaign which focuses on improving understanding and knowledge or oral health and hygiene. In raising awareness, it aims to improve the well-being of people in the UK and further afield. There are three key pieces of advice that underpin the focus month:
- 1.Teeth should be brushed twice a day: once at bedtime, and on at least one other occasion during the day. Fluoride toothpastes are best.
- 2.Sugary food and drinks should be avoided.
- 3.Ensure you keep up your regular dental check-ups. They will be able to advise as to how often you should be visiting.
Following these tips should help you to improve or maintain your oral health and this, in turn, should lead to a greater sense of well-being.
Annually, National Smile Month reaches on average around 50 million people through the campaign, and approximately 4000 organisations register to get involved. The campaign is open to all: dental and healthcare professionals, schools, community groups and employers. Being involved can take many forms such as hosting fun events or activities, sharing information about oral health, or fundraising to support the continuation of the campaign. The campaign also has a presence on social media: you can post a photo with the hashtag #MySmileySelfie and let the world know what you’re up to as part of National Smile Month.
To get involved, you’ll firstly need to register your interest online. This is quick and easy – and there is no charge attached. Visit the National Smile Month website to sign up today.
